Alvarion, Alcatel-Lucent and Motorola are Top WiMAX Carriers

Infonetics Research has given top positions to WiMAX carriers Alvarion, Alcatel-Lucent  and Motorola in its recently published, “Mobile WiMAX Infrastructure Vendor Ratings: Global Service Provider Survey.”

These three companies are closely followed by Cisco and Huawei, says the research firm that has published this research as part of its Continuous Research Service series of WiMAX-related analyst notes and surveys.

Richard Webb, directing analyst for WiMAX, Microwave, and Mobile Devices at Infonetics Research said that Alvarion, Alcatel-Lucent and Motorola received the highest ratings from mobile WiMAX service providers they recently surveyed.

Infonetics conducted this survey in December 2009 and January 2010 and asked mobile WiMAX network equipment purchase decision-makers at 21 service providers from around the world about their choices of equipment and decision criteria for choosing vendors.

The ranking was based on various criteria, such as WiMAX technology, pricing and service and support, and according to Webb no single vendor was rated strong across the board.

Because both Cisco and Huawei have received good ratings, Infonetics suggests that they have all the capability of closing ground on the top three. Webb added that the perception of different aspects of the business will come under increasing scrutiny as the WiMAX market consolidates to a remaining handful of vendors and becomes more competitive.

The WiMAX Survey shows that buyers give a lot of importance to cost effectiveness while selecting a WiMAX vendor. Cisco reportedly achieved the highest ratings for four of the eight criteria, including WiMAX technology on the survey vendor scorecard, for which service providers rated WiMAX equipment vendors.
