Mindspeed Technologies (News - Alert), Inc. a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, reportedly announced that its Transcede 4000 wirespeed baseband processor is being evaluated by ZTE (News - Alert).
ZTE plans to use Transcede 4000 as a potential solution for its next-generation wideband code-division multiple access or W-CDMA, long term evolution, or “LTE,” and WiMAX (News - Alert) base station products.
“Mindspeed is already a leading supplier of carrier-class, application-specific SoCs to ZTE with our Comcerto product line, and the evaluation of our Transcede family for ZTE’s baseband processing needs is a natural evolution of this engagement,” said Raouf Halim, CEO of Mindspeed.
“We are very excited to be working closely with ZTE as they look to semiconductor companies such as Mindspeed to facilitate optimal base station implementations targeting multi-standard, next-generation mobile networks,” Halim added.
Zhang Rui, senior director of ZTE’s LTE (News - Alert) R&D group said that Mindspeed T4000 SoC solves the challenge of designing cost and power effective LTE BBU solutions. ZTE is evaluating the benefits of Transcede 4000 in the context of baseband and L2 software.
What’s more, Rui dded that application specific SoCs have the potential to become a suitable solution to address the power/cost/performance needs of next generation multi-platform, multi-standard mobile networks.
Company officials said that the Transcede SoC integrates an unprecedented 26 processing elements into a single device. This includes two ARM Cortex A9 multi-core symmetric multiprocessing reduced instruction set computer or RISC processors, 10 CEVA (News - Alert) DSPs and 10 DSP accelerators that support the complete W-CDMA, LTE or WiMAX.
Transcede has the capability to deliver three sectors of LTE processing in a single device. It can also provide substantial processing headroom which will enable manufactures to deploy their own value-added features as part of an overall Transcede-based solution.
Mindspeed Technologies designs, develops and sells semiconductor solutions for applications related to communications in the wireline and wireless network infrastructure. This includes interrelated and converging enterprise, broadband access, metropolitan and wide area networks.
The company’s products are classified into three product families namely multiservice access, high-performance analog and wide area networking communications. The products are preferred by OEMs to be used for a variety of network infrastructure equipment including voice and media gateways, high speed routers, switches and many others.
