ZTE, a Chinese firm, has proposed to supply equipment for Next Generation Networks (NGN) to Nepal Telecom (NT) for Rs 1.42 billion.
In a bid opened on Monday ZTE proposed to supply equipment at a price which is Rs 230 million cheaper than its nearest competitor Huawei Technologies, another Chinese firm.
ZTE had proposed to supply the equipment for US$ 19 million (about Rs 1.42 billion) while its nearest competitor Huawei had proposed to supply the same type of equipment for US$ 22 million (about Rs 1.65 billion).
Nepal Telecom is preparing to introduce cable television, Internet via its landline telephones.
In a global tender called by NT, four firms had participated. According to a source at NT, 10 companies had submitted the tender form.
