China Mobile Ltd's Shanghai branch has launched a 4G network at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo site.
The telecom operator said on Wednesday that the 4G network, which is 20 times faster than 3G networks, will be able to provide high-definition video broadcast, remote monitoring and high-speed Internet access.
China Mobile is set to start the massive trial run of its TD-LTE business in the second quarter of 2010, involving the construction of more than 100 cell towers. Many telecoms equipment providers hope to provide their TD-LTE solutions to the Chinese mobile operator, including Motorola Inc., ZTE Corp., and Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson .
Motorola and Huawei Technologies have been appointed to co-build China Mobile's first trial TD-LTE network, which is estimated to make sail for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo in May.
