China's biggest telecommunications carrier China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941, NYSE: CHL) is to advance the three-year TD-SCDMA goal by one year, which is aimed at being completed in 2010, the president Wang Jianzhou said on January 13, 2010.
"The chief focus will be the massive construction of the TD-SCDMA network across the country within 2010," stressed the president.
China Mobile earlier planned to build the network in the 2009 to 2011 period. It had finished the 2009 target: it had had a TD-SCDMA user base of 5.51 million and a cell tower base of 87,000 by the end of the year.
In 2010, the company needs to complete the 2010 plus 2011 part of the three-year goal in just one year, according to the president.
It has accumulatively poured about CNY 80 billion into the TD-SCDMA construction. By the end of 2009, its third-phase TD-SCDMA network had been finished, and its nationwide TD-SCDMA network had covered above 70% of the country's cities.
