Korea's leading mobile phone operator SK Telecom on Thursday said it plans to draw two million new smartphone users this year and promote wireless Internet usage, including building a free Wi-Fi network.
Ha Sung-min, president of SK's mobile network business, said in a press conference that the company plans to supply over two millions smartphones in 2010, and will launch a line-up of smartphones running operating systems like Google's Android, Windows Mobile and Symbian.
The company has also decided to build its own free Wi-Fi network in public areas as well as shops and restaurants in partnership such as Bennigan's and TGIF. The signal will be encoded for security.
"We will also introduce more than 10 kinds of Wi-Fi-enabled handsets so that free Wi-Fi is not limited to smartphone users only," Ha said.
