Samsung announced on January 11, 2010 that its Internet TVs in cooperation with Baidu, Inc. will hit the market this June.
The two parties have inked strategic cooperation agreements officially. They will jointly research and develop Internet TVs with search function and unveil the first batch of products in June 2010.
The Chinese government decided to relax restriction on Internet TVs after the China Video Industry Association (CVIA), under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), submitted a suggestion letter to the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT) in August 2009 in an attempt to support the production of the new products.
The announcement of Samsung marks the prelude to overseas manufacturers' entry into the Web-enable TV market, pointed out Lu Renbo, vice secretary-general of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce.
Currently, the Chinese Internet TV market is occupied by domestic TV makers. Thus, overseas companies, which have coveted the market for a long time, need to seek new ways, such as the cooperation with search giants, to draw attention of consumers.
