Mobile operator Entel PCS has successfully completed the first LTE network trial in Chile. Launched on 29 December 2009, the field tests were developed in partnership with Ericsson. Entel PCS and Ericsson have demonstrated the first internet connection through LTE technology in a field trial, using a network configuration similar to that of a usual site. The tests were conducted at the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics within the University of Chile. As part of the trial, participants accessed maximum download speeds of 50 Mbps, for HD video streaming and high-speed file transfer services, using a spectrum of 20 MHz. According to the Chilean Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, this is the first LTE field trial rolled out in Latin America.
