Sony Ericsson yesterday reported a net loss of €167m ($236m) for the fourth quarter of 2009, as it predicted the mobile handset industry would return to "slight growth" this year.

The company is reeling from its failure to respond to demand for smartphones using touchscreen technology , as well as the economic downturn.
