3 Scandinavia upgrades HSPA network to 84 Mbps with Ericsson

3 Denmark and Sweden have awarded a three-year contract to Ericsson to upgrade their HSPA networks from internet transfer speeds of 21 Mbps to 84 Mbps. The new transfer speeds will be available across all of Denmark and in four major cities in Sweden. The contract between Ericsson and 3 covers the HSPA Evolution capacity upgrade of its existing 3G network, via 42Mbps, to 84 Mbps plus a new WCDMA/HSPA radio access network on the 900MHz frequency band. In addition, Ericsson is providing IP-based optical and microwave backhaul, and support services. Rollout will start in the first quarter of 2010.
